Getting At the Truth
I was summoned to serve on a jury today at our local county courthouse. I wondered what the case might be. I wondered if I would be chosen to be one of the 12. My son was summoned not that long ago so I asked him how they selected which ones would be chosen to hear the case. I talked with another person who was one of the twelve jurors chosen. I asked what that experience was like. My concern was how could I determine the “truth.”
I wouldn’t want to find someone guilty of some crime because they could not afford a good lawyer. I wouldn’t want to acquit someone who was guilty. It all must come down to the evidence.
I thought about the times I would ask one of my children if they did this or that? They would give me a story about what happened, but it just did not make sense under careful questioning. I was able to get to the “truth.”
Friends, Satan feeds us a bunch of lies and wants us to believe them as the truth. He is very good at what he does. He wants us to feel shame for sins of the past that have been confessed and covered by the blood of Jesus. He wants to rob us of the joy of our salvation by trying to convince us we are not saved. When he tries to get you to believe a lie, stop and question the source of that doubt, that fear, that discouragement, that lie.
“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32 NIV
