Growing up in a home where my brother would take me fishing with him is memorable. I anticipated spring coming when the ice would break up on the Wolf River. We would fish for walleye and then, white bass.
For the walleye run it would be cold. The river would be running fast from the snow melt. We would dress warmly and leave home in the dark to get a choice spot.
The white bass run came a bit later in the spring. When the lilacs started to bloom, we knew it was time to head back to the Wolf River to catch a few meals of white bass.
There were many fishermen on the river at all times during the walleye and bass runs. It was imperative that when you decided to anchor your boat, it had to stay anchored in one spot without going downstream. Not only would you lose your spot, but you hit into other boats anchored near you.
God’s Word speaks of a spiritual anchor for our souls called hope which holds us solid, no matter how fast the waters of life flow by. That hope is based on God keeping His promises and is designed to encourage us during those difficult periods of our journey. That hope never disappoints!
“God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. 19 We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” Matthew 6:18-19
