When the Sirens Sound
When tornados, hurricanes, are approaching or bombs are on their way from the sky in war zones, sirens sound. That sound means seek shelter immediately. Find a safe place to hide, evacuate the area in case of a hurricane, or run to a bomb shelter. Safe places are where we can escape the catastrophe that is about to fall upon us. The choices we make could be the difference between life and death.
When I was in grade school, we practiced what to do if the sirens sounded because nuclear missiles were headed our way. It is sad, but today grade schoolers must practice what to do if alarms go off because an active shooter is in the building.
The abused need safe places to escape to. The homeless need a safe place to sleep. The addicted need a safe place to recover from their addictions, thus the rise of rehabilitation centers.
Today you may need a safe place to go to when the sirens sound in your life. You know, when the world seems to be closing in on you. When you have no one to talk with, who understands your situation. When a friend ghosts you and you feel lonely, rejected, and unloved.
When the sirens sound remember, God is our refuge. He is our “safe place.” Run into His loving arms and trust Him.
“Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go; give the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress.” Psalm 71:3 NIV
