God is always at work in our lives. He is molding us, encouraging us, shaping us, and knocking off the rough edges to makes us become more like Jesus Christ.
The most difficult part of that transformation for me is when God gets out His chisel and knocks off the rough edges. The rough edges could be pride, I know better, or I can do that on my own. They could be very strong desires that control me rather than me controlling them. Basically, those rough edges are anything and everything in my life that keep me from acting like and thinking like Jesus.
When I in the middle of some lesson God is teaching me, I need to understand that I am there because God is perfecting me. He does not mean it for harm but for my good, much like we discipline children. He wants what is best for us. If He wasn’t doing that, I might have reason to question His love for me or even if I am one of His children. It is a matter of perspective.
“My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, 6 because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.” Hebrews 12:5-6 NIV
