Bread has been and is essential for human survival. It may look and taste different when made into a chapati, pita bread, tortilla, lavash, barbari, or sangak, but it all does the same, sustain life. In time of war or peace, bread is indispensable.
The bible talks a lot about bread. The Israelites lived on a form of it for forty years. It was a gift from God that sustained them while they wandered around in a barren dessert. Jesus multiplied bread and fed thousands with it. The last formal meal that Jesus ate with His disciples focused on the breaking of and the eating of bread. Jesus has this beautiful teaching on bread in John’s Gospel. May we all understand that when we have Jesus we have all we need for life!
“Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” 34 “Sir,” they said, “always give us this bread.” 35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” John 6:32-35 NIV
