Persistence Pays Off
Growing up my dad instilled in me the importance of finishing what you start. If he told me this once, he told it to me a hundred times. A job half done is never done. A job left unfinished is never finished. Good intentions are not enough to get things done. I can finish it another day is one reason among many reasons to leave something half finished.
My son and I built a cedar strip canoe. I ordered the blueprints for the size and shape we wanted to build. Once into the project I realized it was way past my skill level. We had to learn how to steam bend wood for the bow and stern of the canoe. It took days to cut the hundreds of thin cedar strips. It took longer to glue each piece together and hold them in place with pressure. It took two years to build, off and on. Finally, the day came when we took it to the lake and paddled away. Not only did it float but it was a work of art. Persistence paid off.
God’s Word tells me it is easy to lack persistency in doing good. Doing good becomes very difficult when we think it no longer makes a difference. Be persistent in living the Christian life, whether we feel like it or not, does matter in this life and the next.
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9 NIV
AMEN! This message was brilliant!
