God is My Refuge
Growing up there was a very large wildlife refuge not that far away called Horicon Marsh. It was a place where birds that were migrating great distances could stop, rest, eat, and find safety.
When wars break out thousands of people become refugees overnight. Their homes have either been destroyed or the city they lived in is no longer safe. They need a place to rest, eat, and find safety. They search out places of refuge called refugee camps. Many countries around the world take refugees and care for them until it is safe to return.
Perhaps some of our ancestors sought refuge from religious persecution in Europe and now their offspring call the United States home. Thank God there was a safe place that received them with open arms where they were free to practice their faith.
Every night when we come home, we come to a place of refuge. There is safety from “the night.” We feel secure and can relax and find peace under its roof. It’s our home. If a storm is approaching, we go inside for protection from the wind and lightning. It’s our home.
When the storms of life are upon us, we need a safe place, a place of refuge, that is our “go to” place. The more we know God the easier it will be to run to Him for help. There is no safer place to be than in the loving arms of God when facing trouble. He can be trusted.
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1 NIV
