When I lived in Iran and Kenya one of the hardest things I had to face every day was the poverty. With poverty came the beggars. On every main street there would be numerous beggars, some missing arms, or legs. There were women with two or three little children sitting next to her with flies covering the children’s eyes. It was all so very sad.
To make it even harder some of the children would stand up as you went by, follow you a short distance, pulling on your shirt with their dirty hands outstretched. What does a person do? You cannot give to all, so do you give to none?
Here is what happened. Year after year encountering the same beggars, usually sitting in the same places, I became indifferent and could just walk by. Not good! It was easy to become calloused to the needs around me.
I can just imagine what those blind beggars felt when they cried out to Jesus for help and “HE HEARD” them. How many people walked by them that day, that did not hear them, but Jesus did.
Thank you, Jesus, that you hear my cries for help, no matter how needy I am or how many times I come to you.
“Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.” Proverbs 19:17 NIV
