It’s Really There
One of the anticipated highlights of our recent vacation to Alaska was wanting to see Mt. McKinley in all its splendor. It is the tallest mountain in North America. We even booked a flight in a small plane to fly up and around the peak. However, on the chosen day we woke up to rain and 70 mph winds. Not only were all small planes grounded but we could not even see the mt. because of the rain and clouds. We knew it was there and if the clouds would part, the view would have been breathtaking, but they did not.
Alaska is full of snow-covered peaks so our next chance to see spectacular mts. would be at Copper River. Mt. Drum, though not as high, is still beautiful. That day started with the usual cloud cover that followed us everywhere. But as the hours passed, we caught glimpses of the mt. through the clouds. First its base, then its snow-covered sides, and finally its peak. We did not see all the mt. at once but caught glimpses of all of it.
As I sat waiting for the clouds to part, I reminded myself that now we see dimly what heaven will be like. We have those special moments in our quiet times where we sense what awaits us in heaven. We cannot see it clearly, but we know it is there, just like those mts. hidden behind the clouds. One day the clouds will part, and Jesus will return.
