What’s the Big Thing About Love
I use the word, love, often. I love to take a ride in the fall to see the colors. I love to take walks in the woods with my dog, Jack. I love to watch water go over waterfalls. I love to hear the sound of ocean waves crashing on the beach. What do you love doing, seeing, or hearing? Give yourself permission to reflect on what you love.
All of the above make me feel good when I do them or think about them. What is there not to love about feeling good!
Ther is another dimension to love I want us to think about. There is a side to love that gives and expects nothing in return. A mother loves her baby. That love protects, nurtures, gives, and gives some more. The baby cannot “do things” for the mother. The only thing the baby can do is make messy diapers and cry when hungry or sick. What does the mother do? She loves the baby by changing the diapers and sitting up endless hours caring for the sick child.
Jesus loved us so much He left a place He loved, heaven, and came to live among people, who He knew would not understand Him or love Him. Yet He did it because He loved us. Just as a child cannot repay their mother for the love they received, neither can we repay Jesus for His love. We can thank Him, just as a grown child thanks their mother for the love they received.
“We love because he first loved us.” 1 John 4:19 NIV
