A Different Set of Eyes
Growing up I never wore a pair of sunglasses. As I grew older, I spent countless hours in boats fishing under the glaring sun without ever putting a pair of sunglasses on. We do make choices and that one was a very bad choice.
Several years ago, I went in for my annual eye exam and the Dr. told me I have a moderate case of macular degeneration. That was years ago, and it has gradually grown worse over time. You can be sure I wear my sunglasses now nearly every time I step outside, but the degeneration has been set in motion. All I can do is hope to slow it down with preventive measures. My sight is so important to me.
Did you know that the Bible talks about a different set of eyes we have that allows us to see things that our physical eyes may not see or understand. “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,” Ephesians 1:18 NIV
Paul is saying that with our heart, our spiritual sight, we can see and understand the awesome gifts that are ours already as followers of Jesus. We have forgiveness of our sins and everlasting life. It is so easy to overlook those blessings with our physical eyes, but God wants us to see them with a different set of eyes, the eyes of our heart!

Indeed – so true but how often I act as if I’m in control instead of GOD! I’ll add you to my Especially-Needed Prayer list! My mom suffered with Macular ~ she never wore sunglasses either. I need to do so more regularly – thanks for the reminder. My mom received shots in one eye until she passed at 94! She lost the other eye about 5 years before she died. Of course, one of her PRAYERS was to not lose her eyesight before her death. Fortunately, she could see til the end…🫶🏼😇💞
Most sincerely,
