Deep Clean
A person’s childhood years leave so many impressions that last a lifetime. Around our house springtime was the time to do a deep cleaning of the house. I remember, when the weather started to warm up, mom and dad would take several days and give our house a deep cleaning.
The windows would be opened wide to get fresh air in the house. Every window would be cleaned to the point where they were streak free. Every Floor would be scrubbed on hands and knees. All the walls would be washed carefully. Every picture taken down and dusted meticulously. Carpets would be shampooed and dried, rugs washed, and all bedding washed and dried. When it was all finished it was like we had just moved into a new home. I never realized how “dirty” the house had gotten because I was used to living in it. But I remember how fresh everything was when it was deep cleaned and how well I slept that first night after they finished.
There are times in our lives where we need to do a deep clean as well. Maybe old habits are finding a place in our lives once again. Perhaps there are things in our life we need to get rid of. One thing I know is that when I get rid of sin in my life I sleep better, feel better, and am cleaner. Remember, it is important to be able to step back and look at your life because it becomes very easy to live in a “dirty house” over time.
“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalm 139:23-24 NIV
