Wisdom
If God appeared to me and told me, I could have whatever I wanted, what would I ask for? What would you ask for? Long life, good health, riches, are some things that cross my mind quickly. What crossed your mind? What would be so awesome about this offer is we know that God has the power to grant the wish.
God made such an offer to Solomon. We know what his choice was, wisdom. He became the wisest man to ever have lived. With that wisdom, came riches beyond measure. People came from all over the world to listen to his wisdom. Basically, he gave us the book of Proverbs which is packed full of godly wisdom.
I first want us to ponder where Solomon’s wisdom came from. It came from God, not his own understanding. God gave to Solomon the wisdom that he possessed. Solomon did not have to gain his wisdom like you, and I do, through life’s experiences and the knowledge we acquire. One moment Solomon was like you and me and the next moment he was the wisest man who ever lived.
There is earthly wisdom and there is wisdom that comes from above. Solomon possessed wisdom from above. We all want to make wise choices based on God’s wisdom, not man’s wisdom.
Second, I want us to ponder this. As His children our heavenly Father wants to give us His wisdom also. He says the only requirement is that we ask for it in faith, not doubting.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5 NIV
