Day 56
Read: Leviticus 25:24 – 26:46
Today’s reading assignment is interesting because it starts with revealing God as the true owner of the land, requiring sabbaths for rest and the Jubilee for restoring freedom, debts, and property. Following that, it focuses on the reward for obedience and ends with punishment for disobedience. In summary, obedience brings blessing, security, and abundance, while disobedience brings desolation. We are called to trust God’s provision over greed.
As I read today’s assignment, there were several things that stood out to me…
- God tells Israel that the land and by extension their resources, belong to Him. The “Family Guardian” or redeeming relative is responsible for redeeming property in danger of being sold outside the family, providing an heir for the deceased, and avenging the blood of the deceased. Christ is the Family Guardian of His people.
What does it mean to you to know that Christ is your redeemer? - Leviticus 26:26 really stood out to me because it reveals that God desires to feed us both physically and emotionally. The dissatisfaction mentioned in this verse is likely an emotional one and can manifest itself in addictions, eating disorders, etc. Satan can find these weak links and use them against us. Often, we don’t understand why we succumb to these weaknesses, but if we want to seek recovery, we must find the willpower by desiring to be made well, righteous, and free from our weakness. God is faithful and true to help us in our battles with any problem. We must provide the will, surround ourselves with others who provide encouragement, and God will provide the power! Following God’s path leads to peace and safety.
- The command for the Sabbath year (allowing the land to rest) and the Year of Jubilee (restoring property/freedom) are acts of radical trust. God promises that if we prioritize His rest and care for others, He will provide supernaturally.
Are you living in a constant state of striving, or are you trusting in God’s provision?
Prayer:
Lord, thank You that I am a steward of what You have given me, not the owner. Help me to trust Your provision rather than my own striving. Give me a heart to restore and extend grace to others. Amen.
