Day 28
Read: Job 32:1 – 34:37
Reflect:
Today’s reading introduces Elihu. He is a younger man offering a new perspective on Job’s suffering. He rebukes Job for justifying himself rather than God. Elihu also criticizes the older friends for failing to answer effectively. Elihu argues that God is sovereign, righteous, and uses suffering to teach and protect, not just to punish.
Elihu claims that true wisdom comes from the Spirit of God, not just age.
When have you sought human wisdom over divine wisdom in a difficult situation?
Ask yourself: How can I show respect to those older than me while still standing up for what is true?
Elihu claims to speak for God, saying he is “cut from the same clay” as Job (Job 33:6).
How does this perspective differ from the other friends’ harsh accusations?
How does Elihu describe God using suffering as a “messenger” or “ransom” to turn people away from pride and destruction (Job 33:14-30)?
Ask yourself: “When I am suffering, do I seek to understand what God might be teaching me, or do I only want the pain to stop?”
How does today’s reading point toward the role of a mediator or Redeemer?
