Today’s reading is mostly a record of Esau’s descendants, who established a powerful and wealthy nation (Edom) with kings and chiefs long before Israel had a king.

Reflect:

The inclusion of Esau’s full genealogy in both Genesis and 1 Chronicles emphasizes that God is sovereign over all nations and histories, not just the chosen line of Jacob/Israel. This is a good reminder for us that every detail of our lives and history is known to God, and He works out His purposes even through those outside the direct covenant line.
