Patience Is a Virtue
We all need and want more of it but acquiring patience is not easy. Here is what makes patience so important to have in our tool kit of life. It helps us face the challenges of life with a calmer mind. When I “lose my patience” like I had it to lose, I quickly become frustrated when I cannot put something together or fix a broken object. Frustration does not solve anything, so being patient allows me to focus on the task at hand and not quit halfway through.
Patience also keeps us from getting discouraged when we have setbacks with our health or relationships. We can stay focused on the goals and purposes God has for that stage of our journey with Him.
Patience helps us maintain a positive attitude during difficult times. It helps us make wiser choices, weighing all the options before acting. Patience is a great virtue.
So how do we acquire more patience without asking God to give it to us. If we ask God for patience He will send tribulation into our life in answer to our prayer. None of us need more tribulation. I only prayed for patience once and did God answer that prayer in a jiffy.
I found a hobby that is teaching me patience, rock tumbling and polishing. Taking a jagged rock and turning it into a flawless shiny stone can take months. Each week I take about 10 pounds of rocks out of a tumbler, examine each one carefully for flaws. If there are any, back in it goes for another week. If I am patient with the process and don’t rush it, the results are amazing! That is what patience is about.
“The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride.” Ecclesiastes 7:8 NIV
