Give Thanks In All Things
It had been a couple of months of small irritants and unwelcome surprises. You know the kind that chips away at your peace, joy and sense of wellbeing.
I couldn’t seem to shake a virus that many others had also. My house was experiencing an electrical problem. Lights would dim and a few times we lost power. And then I found mice in my basement. As a widow for 3 years I’m learning to deal with the obstacles that Jim always took care of. But I hate mice. On top of that I was worried about my beloved lab, named Jack. He was sick and not eating.
Sunday morning was here and we were going to church to worship, a bright spot in the week. Just as we got to the exit, I felt my car lose power and messages were flashing and the engine light was on. We made it but I was distracted with the latest problem. I took my seat, and my dear friend told me, Give thanks in all things. I wrestled with these words as the worship team sang The Little Drummer Boy.
“I have no gifts to bring that’s fit to give a King.” Oh Lord, here I stand before You, worried and upset over the trivialities of life that happens to all of us. But I can give You, my Savior a gift. The gift of trust in You. I can give You the gift of praise in the problems and know that You are a faithful God. I can choose to put aside my cares and give thanks in all things.
Thank You my Lord for being born a baby to identify with fallen man and show us the way. You are so worthy of my praise.
