Gratitude
I have been reading through the bible alongside a YouTube video. We are currently in Numbers. WHEW! I don’t pretend to understand even half of what I’m reading. But I press on trusting the Lord that He will show me nuggets of truth He has to teach me. I can see that God is trying to build a nation for Himself. Lots of commands God requires of His people to worship Him. And I keep reading that God states; I am the Lord your God who brought you out of Egypt. This sentence is reoccurring as if God is saying remember your enslavement and oppression in Egypt. But the nation would forget God’s faithfulness and start complaining. Cries of, have you, Moses brought us out of Egypt to die in this wilderness? Let’s go back to Egypt. At least we had leeks, garlic and meat. It got so bad that Moses pleaded for their lives as God was fed up with His people and wanted to destroy them. In Numbers 16 we read the account of the earth opening and swallowing Dathan and more. You might remember him from the movie, The Ten Commandments. He was a rebel rouser and always a problem for Moses.
What can I learn from this? God showed up for His people. He was a pillar of light by night and a cloud by day to show them the way. He parted the Red Sea when the nation was trapped and saved them from Pharaoh’s army. He fed them and gave them water in the desert. God was showing them; He was involved in their everyday lives. Unfortunately, the people complained and murmured. Ouch! Sometimes in my walk with God, I have not trusted. Wanting to run back to a previous time where I considered myself safe. I had my share of leeks, meat and garlic supplied. But when God wants to do a new thing in our lives, He will expect us to trust Him and have an attitude of gratitude. Lord You are faithful no matter where we find ourselves in life. We praise You for Your faithfulness.
