The Bible tells us that patience is a virtue. What could be wrong in wanting to add the virtue of patience to our character? Nothing… right?
A virtuous life is what sets the follower of Jesus, apart from the world. Honesty, Faith, Hope, Patience, and Love are virtues we all want more of. The rub comes with how God has designed virtues to become a part of who we are.
Each virtue is developed in our lives through situations we face and the choices we make in those situations. For example, the more situations we face in life where we are tempted to lie, but tell the truth, (with the Holy Spirit’s enabling), honesty is built into our Christian character. To have Faith we need to read God’s Word, etc.
Back to patience! This is one virtue so many desire. I have heard so many people pray for patience, and that is great. But I’m wondering if they really know what they are asking God for? God allows trials and troubles in one’s life to produce patience. Job was patient. We know how he got his patience, and it was not an easy path.
The Bible often describes the Christian walk as a race. We need patience and endurance to fulfill our journey. We do so by continually planting ourselves in the Word of God (Psalm 1:3), with the regular fellowship of believers, and in prayer. Think of patience like a race of endurance…a marathon.
God Bless you on your journey of Honesty, Faith, Hope, Love, and PATIENCE!
