God’s Majesty and Splendor
For those who get up early, sunrises are a special moment each day. Birds are awake and talking to each other. The air is fresh. The sun and sky send a message about what the day may be like. I have witnessed and experienced the most breathtaking sunrises while fishing for salmon on Lake Michigan. If the sun was red in the morning, it meant “sailor take warning”.
Many a morning I would get a sunrise call from my sister, Pat. Her first words over the phone would often be, “Paul, did you see the sunrise this morning?” Each is unique and a reminder of just how majestic our God is. Pause today, and reflect for a moment on the majesty of the Creator of all this.
I can’t help but have the tunes of childhood hymns go through my mind as I read and reflect on today’s scripture: For the Beauty of the Earth; The Wonder of It All; How Great Thou Art; All Creatures of Our God and King; Great Is Thy Faithfulness. Contemporary hymn writers Keith and Kristyn Getty have written hymns including Creation Sings the Father’s Song.
Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.
1 Chronicles 29:11 NIV
