When I lived in Iran, I enjoyed going to the Bazaar and doing some shopping. The Bazaar is the Middle East’s version of a shopping mall. Each area of the Bazaar had its own merchandise for sale.
One area was especially noisy. It was the area where the Persian craftsmen would be handcrafting various metal pots, pans, and trays. As they carved beautiful designs on their creations you could hear the constant ping of the hammer against their fine chisels. No two were ever exactly the same, because they were handmade. As I walked through their booth I was filled with a sense of awe, as I admired the uniqueness of each piece.
This reminds me that likewise, no two Christians are exactly alike. Each of us are in the process of being made into the vessel of God’s choosing. He won’t be finished with us here on earth until He calls us Home. As a 70+ year old, I’m not the same person as I was during my Peace Corps time in Iran. God continues to mold me; I know He is in control. Some people rebel and try to switch roles with God. They think they can control their bodies. But we are a part of God’s creation. He is the potter; we are the pot. The sooner we stop fighting the process, the more at peace we will be.
Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it,
– “You did not make me”?
Can the pot say to the potter,
– “You know nothing”?
