What keeps us from reading our Bibles? The Bible is the world’s most read and sold book, with 100 million copies sold annually in at least 469 languages. For many of us, finding time and sticking to it has been a struggle. Others think they need to stick to a reading plan, and when they get behind, they give up.
I changed my mindset to fellowshipping with God. This is possible because the Holy Spirit lives within me. Jesus promised this when I accepted Him as my Lord and Savior. (John 14:16-17). I know that I am always in God’s presence. (Psalm 139:7) BUT IT IS UP TO ME TO DRAW NEAR TO GOD by fellowshipping with Him. The reason I fellowship with God is so my JOY will always be full (1 John 1:3-4).
I give God my time first thing in the morning. I talk to Him, pray, listen to the Holy Spirit, and read the Bible. Even 3 verses can impact my day. Some days I can read several chapters. The point is that I have developed a habit, and if I miss a day, I feel like I’m missing something- my joy is not full.
What’s keeping you from reading God’s Word? Can you understand your Bible’s translation? There are many good translations, so find one that speaks to you. Start small- a few verses or a chapter from the Gospel of John and continue in the Book of Acts. And so on. The key is to read God’s Word daily.

4 “I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. 5 Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.8 Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.” Psalm 34:4-5,8 NIV
