STOP-THINK-LISTEN-DO: Experiencing God’s Peace

When we think of peace, we often associate it with the absence of conflict or turmoil. However, Biblical peace goes beyond mere external tranquility. It is a deep sense of calm and contentment that can only be found in our relationship with God. My dad modeled this when I was growing up.
My dad kept a diary for most of his married life. For many years he would write one page a day, 365 days a year. He didn’t miss a day! I remember as a young boy watching him do it. He would not let me read what he was writing, but I could not help but notice he wrote the same four words on the top of every page, STOP–THINK-LISTEN-DO.
That is good advice when things get out of control. Stop (have quiet time) – Reflect – Listen to God -and then make wise decisions going forward. We will not find peace in this world. Our peace does not come from our circumstances in life, but lies in our relationship with Jesus Christ, our Savior.
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 NIV
