The wind howled and the lightning flashed. Last night a thunderstorm came through as it got dark, and for awhile the wind blew hard. It was one of those storms where I knew the power may go out and trees could topple over. Our power stayed on, but others were not so fortunate. Our neighbor up the road lost power. Further down our road I noticed a tree had blown over my neighbor’s electric fence. I pulled into their yard, and alerted them so they could fix it before the cattle got out.
Back to our dear neighbor who lost power. I stopped by and together we tried calling the power company. It was the weirdest thing. We would call the number for power outages only to receive a message that the number we were trying to call was an invalid number. I called my son, and asked him to call the number; but the message was the same. This was not a comforting feeling. I called out to God: “God, what is this all about? Is there a message here I am missing?”
Since we had power, I brought my neighbor over to our house to figure out what to do next. I kept trying to call the power outage number. After innumerable attempts, I finally got through. Perseverance paid off. Unfortunately, it did not sound like power would be restored soon. We decided that our neighbor should spend the night with us.
After drinking a cup of tea, we headed back to our neighbor’s home to pick up pajamas, etc. As we headed down our road, we spotted headlights off in the distance.
Could our prayers be answered so quickly? Yes indeed! The power company’s crew was on the scene, removing broken limbs, and getting ready to flip the switch. Within minutes the power was back on, and our neighbor got to spend the night in her own bed. God’s timing was perfect. What is so surprising about that anyway? He is God, and in control of all things: the wind, the rain, and everything else that happened last night. To Him be all the glory! We all had a good night’s sleep! Amen.
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
