Abide in Him!
Going to a place where you have never been before is adventurous. You meet new people. You enjoy trying new foods at different restaurants. My wife likes to check out different shops. I like to explore and check out what different birds or animals I can find.
The one part I most dislike about vacations is sleeping in a strange bed. Oh, the sheets are clean and there are plenty of covers and pillows. However, Chester and Mittens, two cats that sleep with us, are missing. The night sounds are different each place we spend a night, so that is strange. How sweet it would be if I could just take my home with me, spend the night in it, but wake up each day in a new area. No matter how fun vacationing is, it is always comforting to be back home.
That is what abiding in Christ is like. It means we get to remain in Him, be with Him, and rest in Him no matter what. The Bible uses the imagery of a branch attached to a vine to describe the special “connection” we enjoy with Jesus.
Abiding in Jesus means we enjoy His peace when under stress. We grow and mature as we depend upon the Vine for nourishment and strength. Ultimately the branch bear’s fruit. What a beautiful picture of what it means to “be home with Jesus.”
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5 NIV
