Amen and Amen
“The early bird gets the worm” is a phrase we think we understand. Those who get up early are the “go-getters.” However, there is more to the saying. “The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.” What it really means is being first is not always the best.
When we pray, we often conclude our prayers with the word, amen. It is something we have learned early on in our lives and have repeated it many times. Have you ever wondered what that word means?
Amen has its roots in Hebrew from the Old Testament and means, “so be it.” Now that makes sense. We ask God to intervene that all would go well in an upcoming surgery. We conclude our prayer with, amen or “so be it.” In a way we are asking God to answer “yes” to our prayer.
Did you know that every promise God has made to us comes with an, “amen.” I will never abandon you, Amen! I will be beside you every day of your journey, Amen! I will give you the Holy Spirit to comfort you, Amen! I will give you wisdom to make wise choices, Amen! That means that every promise God makes to us, He concludes with, “so be it.”
“For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.” 2 Corinthians 1:20 NIV
Hi Pastor Paul,
Therese was here yesterday and this morning and introduced me to your blog. It was wonderful being together. We have been best friends for over 50 years and what a blessing it has been. It fills my heart talking about spiritual things with her. You are very blessed to have her as part of your church family.
