The School of Hard Knocks
On our journey there are valuable lessons to be learned from the difficult and painful moments we experience. I wish there was a way to avoid all those moments but there is not. Obviously, there are lessons to be learned from each experience, so we do not continue to repeat them. Wise is the person that learns quickly.
I have made some impulsive decisions in my life. I bought this cute puppy without taking the time to discover he was deaf. Two years later I am still learning from that experience.
When Monika’s stepfather came to visit this week, I noticed he was missing a thumb. He was using his table saw without the safety guard in place. He said he never even knew he cut it off until he noticed the blood. He will never do that again. I have had my own close calls with the table saw and only needed stitches. I always use a blade guard now.
Even during the roughest parts of our journey Jesus has promised to be our teacher, guiding us, giving us strength, offering us hope, comforting us, loving us, extending mercy, providing forgiveness, removing our fears and doubts, and so much more.
“Although the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers will be hidden no more; with your own eyes you will see them. 21 Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” Isaiah 30:20-21 NIV
