Known and Loved
Growing up I had an identity. I was known as Donald and Mabel Smith’s child. On my birth certificate it lists them as my mother and father. As a young child I was proud to be known as their son. During my rebellious teenage years, not so much. The point being my feelings could do nothing to change the truth, I was their child.
They loved me during those years when I was proud of them and when I rebelled. They always did what they thought was best for me. Looking back, if I were them, I would have thought about disowning me during those defiant years. I never got that feeling from them.
Eventually, my dad lost his battle from the complications of cancer and my mom lost her battle, from a bad heart. They did not have many material possessions, but I was an heir, so I received my portion of the estate, for which I am thankful. I still cherish my dad’s ring and watch.
God tells us we are His children, heirs to all His blessings, and above all Loved!
“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2 Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is” 1 John 3:1-2
