What Really Matters
When I left for Iran, I had to decide what to store somewhere for two years and what to take with me. I didn’t have much yet, fresh out of college but I still managed to accumulate “stuff.” There was the car. That was old and ready to be gotten rid of. I had acquired some hand me down furniture. That was an easy choice to make. Out to the curb.
I have been quite sick a few times. As I laid in bed my thoughts were not focused on all the “stuff” I had accumulated since my time in Iran. My thoughts were on what I needed to do to get well.
When Monika came out of surgery and could not walk because her nerves had been damaged. My thoughts were focused on her care and getting her up on her feet again. Nothing else mattered.
Friends, nothing else matters in life besides knowing Jesus Christ. In the end it is not about my accomplishments, my bank account, or even my health. It is all about my relationship with Jesus. God help me to keep my priorities right in life. It is so easy to lose perspective about what really matters.
“What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ” Philippians 3:8 NIV
