“But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere.” 2 Corinthians 2:14 NIV
Processions are like parades. Both celebrate something special like a holiday, the astronauts return from the moon, or the end of WW II.
I played trombone in the high school marching band and took part in many parades. There was always a prescribed route we would have to follow. The American Legion would normally be at the front of the parade carrying the United Sates flag. After that there would generally be floats, old cars, and fire trucks would bring up the rear.
People would be lining the parade route and if the crowd would applaud as we marched by, the band director would often give the signal to strike up a song. It was our way of saying thanks for coming.
In a sense that is how Jesus uses us for His purposes on this earth. When we joined His “marching band” by faith we agreed to be paraded before others for His glory. We signed up to bring a sweet aroma to the watching world through our words and lifestyle.
Father, I am your willing “band member.” Thank you for the privilege of inviting me to be a part of it. May my life be a beautiful sound to those who I encounter today!
