When the end of the month comes, and bills are due, we may wonder how they are all going to get paid? Going through seminary many years ago I remember those days all too well.
When I would get a call from a hospital wanting to set up some kind of payment plan it was stressful. Then I was about to graduate from seminary, and I still owed the school over a thousand dollars in tuition.
I remember talking to God about that bill. I said, Lord, I cannot in all honesty, walk across the stage, accept my degree, and still owe them money. It took me five years to earn a three-year degree, because I had to hold down two part-time jobs while studying.
About one week before graduation, I received a call from the seminary. I was sure they were going to want me to set up some kind of payment plan. But no! Some anonymous individual had paid off my outstanding balance. I could walk across the stage, receive my degree, debt free. God had it covered.
My memory is not what it used to be. I can forget someone’s name, only to remember it later when the person has walked away. But,I will never forget God is our helper no matter what situation we find ourselves in.
“Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” 6 So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” Hebrews 13:5-6 NIV
