Saturday, the day before Christmas Eve, began as most Saturdays do. We had a leisurely breakfast and discussed what we were going to do the rest of the day. The phone rang. My son was calling. They needed to wrap Christmas presents for the kids. In other words, dad, would you come, pick up the kids, and watch them.
On the way I was wondering what we could do together. It was getting close to lunch, so I decided to take them out to eat. We arrived at the restaurant and about halfway through eating a man dressed up as Santa Claus drove around the restaurant on a Harley decorated as Santa’s sleigh. The sleigh part was filled with all kinds of gifts.
He pulled up in front, stopped, grabbed a couple of sacks from his sleigh, and came into the restaurant. He rang a bell, shouted Merry Christmas, and proceeded to give everyone in the restaurant a present. My grandchildren’s eyes grew wide as each were each handed a fluffy stuffed animal.
What came next made this moment even more memorable. My grandchildren looked at me and said grandpa why don’t we go to the store, buy presents, give them away, and make some other children happy. As I was about to pay the bill, so we could leave to do just that, the waitress came up to me and said someone has already paid for your meal and covered the tip as well.
The Christmas season is about sharing God’s love with others. Pass His love on and leave a memory in someone’s heart.
“For God so loved the world that he gave…” John 3:16 NIV
