I prioritize what needs to get done before I leave the house in the morning. Sometimes at the end of the day I have forgotten to do something that was important to get done. It is so easy to get sidetracked and forget all about what really matters. You know what I am talking about.
At times, others feel their needs take priority over yours. I may sit down at my computer to do something very important, only to have my favorite cat, Mittens, decide she needs attention. She will jump up on my desk and lay in front of my keyboard. She will not let me touch it until I have shown her the affection, she feels she deserves.
People sometimes feel jealousy if they do not feel first in your life. No one wants to feel slighted, taken for granted, or overlooked. That is a slippery slope. It usually does not end well.
The Bible says our God is a jealous God. That means He does not want to feel slighted, taken for granted, or overlooked either. He wants to be first in our lives. His desire is that our relationship with Him will be our number one priority.
God is jealous, in the sense that He does not want us to give to others what only belongs to Him, our worship.
“You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God” Exodus 20:5 NIV
