Through the years when I would go on vacation, I would bring home some rocks. Sometimes I would buy them, or just pick them up from the roadside. The varieties are endless.
I was always fascinated that some rocks in the rock shops were beautiful shiny stones. I wondered how dirty and jagged rocks can be turned into beautiful smooth, polished stones.
Along came YouTube and I found a channel that showed me how to do it. Depending on how hard the rock is, how many sharp edges and indentations it has, and depending on the method you choose to use, it can take up to six months or more of constant tumbling in a rock tumbler to turn an ugly rock into something you would be proud to display in your home. Bottom line, it requires time, attention, and patience.
When we first trust Jesus as our Savior we are like a hard jagged rock that needs lots of tumbling to get the rough edges knocked off. Over time more of the image of God starts to appear and we begin to shine for the Lord.
Rocks are polished by tumbling them with hard abrasive grit mixed in. The rough edges of our lives are knocked off by the trials and tribulations of life. So, the next time you are struggling in life, take that beautiful polished stone out of your pocket or purse, look at it, and remember what God is turning you into. “And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;” Romans 5:3 KJV
