We all know how one thing can lead to another and then another. Before long everything seems out of control. Or is it? From our point of view things may not seem to make sense. From God’s viewpoint, He has everything under control.
I was ready to head back to Indiana from Wisconsin for my second year of seminary. Looking back now it was probably not the smartest thing to move back to Wisconsin for the summer. Anyway, I needed to get back to Indiana for the fall semester and had no money. Something very special happened. A widowed lady from the church invited me over for dinner. I did not know her that well, but she was such a wonderful elderly lady. I couldn’t turn down the invitation. When I was ready to leave, she handed me an envelope and inside was the money I would need to get back to Indiana. I never saw that coming. Praise God!
I believe God both allows and creates circumstances in our life to teach us valuable lessons about ourselves and Him. How many times has God gotten your attention by events that have happened to you or a loved one? God humbles us through the circumstances of life. We are made aware of our utter dependence on Him for everything through the circumstances of life. We can read in His Word that He is trustworthy but sometimes we need the object lessons of life to drive it home!
“Indeed, there is an appropriate time and a response for every circumstance, since human misery weighs heavily upon him.” Ecclesiastes 8:6 ISV
