I have lived in countries where disrespect is more a part of everyday life than kindness. We all know what it feels like to be treated with coldness, disrespect, and inconsideration.
I have also lived in areas where you are greeted by smiles in public and people hold the door open for you. The other day my wife and I were entering a store. A young man with his son were entering the same store a considerable distance ahead of us. The door would have had plenty of time to close before we got there. The father looked at the son and said please wait and hold the door open for them.
The young son kept the door open with a cute smile on his face and said “my pleasure” as we thanked him. He then rushed ahead and opened the second door leading into the store for us.
What impressed me the most is the young boy, maybe about 12, did not do it begrudgingly, but with a smile on his face. He could have refused to do it. He could have done it with a bad attitude. No, he did it joyfully.
God even takes it up a notch and says that is an example of how He wants us to treat even our enemies.
“But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.” Luke 6:35
What a great example that father is giving his son…awesome, thanks for sharing.
