Iran, which is ancient Persia, is known for its pomegranates, dates, and melons, one of which is the Persian melon. It is also known as the Odessa Melon. You must taste it to understand just how juicy and sweet it is. They are somewhat like our honey dew melon, but the similarity ends there.
At a certain stage in the development of the melon the farmers, where I lived, covered each melon on the vine to shield it from the burning sun. If they left it exposed to the sun the melon would become sunburned. The luscious taste would be lost. At the perfect moment the fruit is harvested.
On our journey God knows how much “sun” we can handle. He knows just how many of the good things in life we need to thrive. He also knows how many of the trials of life we can bear. Maturity on our journey comes from growing through the perfect balance of blessings and trials. We can trust God that whatever He puts on our plate will work for good as we trust Him!
“Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” James 1:12 NIV
