Why Pray
People often ask, “Why Pray?” The thought is, if God already knows what is going to happen. If His plans are set in stone there is nothing I can do, even by praying, to change things, so why pray?
To answer the question, why pray, we need to go no further than 1 Thessalonians 5:17 where God exhorts us to pray without ceasing. He would not tell us to engage in praying if it was a waste of time. Prayer matters to God so He tells us to be in a constant state of prayer. There are those moments we come to every day where we need to turn to God in faith an offer up quick inner prayer. You drive by an accident on the road. God, please bring help fast. Give safety to all those attending. You meet someone in the grocery store that you know needs the Lord. God, please speak to the heart of that person and bring them into a relationship with you.
We pray because God tells us to. We pray because it matters to God. I may not understand the why, but I do understand the need to pray. In the process, prayer changes me. It makes me dependent on God!
“Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NIV
