Fruit
Growing up we did not have fruit of any kind in the house. My brother could not stand the sight or smell of fruit. To this day I have never seen him eat one piece of fruit. You might think someone who does not eat fruit would die young. Well, he is well into his 80’s and still going strong. So much for that myth.
I love fruit. There was only one type of fruit I could not eat and that was Durian fruit from Southeast Asia.
The Bible portrays God as a vinedresser. He prunes the vines, so they bear much fruit. Those vine branches that look like they are a part of the plant but are dead He removes. Others He cuts off a bit here and there so they will bear more fruit. We all know what that feels like.
Jesus is also pictured as the vine. Only those branches that are connected to Him will bear fruit. Jesus desires that each branch bear fruit in abundance. The key is to be connected to the vine for without that life giving connection there can be no fruit and no life. Bearing fruit matters to God.
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5 NIV
