More Valuable Than Gold
I remember in the 1960’s a high school teacher came up to me and said, Paul, I think I am going to buy some gold. He said it was expensive, but he was sure it was going to increase in value. It was about $32.00 per ounce. Well, he was right. Today it is worth $2,475.30 per ounce. We can all agree that gold and jewels are valuable items. However, the Bible says there is something more valuable that we ought to be searching for, wisdom!
I know what makes gold valuable but what makes wisdom so valuable. We cannot take it out of our pockets and buy a loaf of bread with it. Yet, the Bible says those who possess wisdom will be rich enough to buy all the bread they could ever want.
Let me frame the thought in another way. How much would people pay to be happy? People spend billions of dollars to find happiness. Merchants get rich promising happiness if you just buy their product. It is all smoke and mirrors. Find wisdom and you will have what all the gold, silver, and jewels in the world cannot buy.
“Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, 14 for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. 15 She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. 16 Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. 17 Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. 18 She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her; those who hold her fast will be blessed.” Proverbs 13:13-18 NIV
