Be All Ears
Be all ears is an interesting idiom. Visually it makes no sense. I can’t imagine what a person would look like who was all ears. But we know what it means. It means a person is eager and ready to listen to what is about to be said.
My mother loved Brewers baseball. As she grew older her hearing was about gone. She used to sit in a chair with a radio propped up next to her good ear so she could listen to the game. That image will stay with me all my life. She was eager to listen to every game.
We usually associate listening with our ears but there is another form of listening. We can listen for God to speak to our hearts with His still small voice. Have you listened to it recently? When all is quiet and we are alone on a walk, sitting down and looking outside, just lying in bed before we go to sleep or get up, or better yet when reading our Bibles. listen for God to speak to you.
It is at those moments when He says, I love you, I am your Father, I understand, don’t be afraid, I got this, you can trust Me, I forgive you. He knows exactly what we need to hear at those moments. All we need to do is be all ears.
“Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live.” Isaiah 55:3a NIV
