The Unknown
I remember my first plane ride. It was a flight to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. My ultimate destination was Tehran, Iran. I had no idea what flying through a cloud in the sky was like. All my life I could only look up at clouds from the ground. I would finally get to look down on clouds from above. There was no way to prepare for the unknown, flight.
I spent two weeks with the Peace Corps there as they tried to prepare the group of new volunteers for the unknown, living in Iran where the language and culture were all unknown to us. Two weeks of orientation did not adequately prepare me for the moment I stepped off the plane in Tehran.
As followers of Jesus there are a lot of unknown experiences that lie ahead of us. We get some idea of what yet lies ahead from the Bible, but experientially it is all a big unknown. We will be raised from the dead. Talk about an unknown experience that will go to the top of the list. Lazarus experienced it but doesn’t tell us what he saw or experienced.
We will reign with Jesus Christ for one thousand years on earth. We will never need to sleep, we will never grow old, we will never feel pain, all unknown experiences. I can trust Jesus to be there for me. He knows me!
“I will give you hidden treasures, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel, who summons you by name.” Isaiah 45:3 NIV
