Complete
Complete is a powerful concept. It means nothing is lacking. When we built a new home there came that day where every detail had been completed. When we walked out the doors, one last time, we would never walk through them again. It was a great feeling to drive away, look back, and admire our completed work.
What Jesus did for us on the cross was perfect. When He said, “It is finished,” there was nothing more that could or needed to be done.
Let me illustrate it this way. Suppose as we were driving away from this beautiful mansion we just built, some worker decided to nail a door on the outside where there was no opening. Suppose as we were driving away another worker painted one exterior wall bright blue because he liked the color. We would say that is crazy to do such things.
People all the time think they need to add to what Jesus did on the cross. There is nothing that we can add to something that is perfect. Whatever we add turns something beautiful into something ugly.
That day, Jesu paid it all. “It is finished.” Use your energy today serving Him and worshipping Him rather than trying to make something perfect, better.
“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” 2 Peter 1:3 NIV
