Pulling the Strings
Growing up I remember watching marionette puppet shows. The little characters were controlled strings. Some puppeteers were masters at their craft and could make the puppets behave life like.
I recently took my grandchildren to an animated movie called Inside Out 2. The movie reminded me of watching marionette puppets. Whatever emotion was pulling the strings of the main character, Riley, dictated her behavior. If she gave in to the emotion of anxiety, for example, her life became agitated as she was filled with fear and worry. When joy filled her life, she was calm, happy, and content.
Whatever emotion I allow to pull the strings in my life will impact my choices and my words. We know the types of choices and words that come out of our mouths when anger has control of us. Contrast that with the choices and words that come out of our mouths when love has control. The two scenarios could not look more different.
Dear Jesus, please help love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, faithfulness, and self-control pull the strings of my life today. I want the Holy Spirit to be the One pulling the strings of my life, amen!
“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7 NIV
