Blue Skies
For about six months, between May and October, in Iran the skies are the same every day. You didn’t have to wonder if you would need an umbrella or a raincoat. You would be surprised if you even saw a cloud in the sky. The walk into the village of Sarab Saeed was dusty during those months. What grass there was, would turn brown. The nomadic Kurds would pack up their goat skin tents and head up higher into the Zagros Mountain range. Their flocks of sheep and goats needed greener pastures. Their life was a tough one. When I was there in the 70’s there was pressure being put on them to settle in one area and stop the movement. I wonder how they are coping today.
The Kurds are a people without a country. They live in western Iran, and the neighboring countries of Iraq and Turkey. They desperately want a land for themselves and are fighting for that hope in Iraq and Turkey.
The sun shines down on all humanity from the blue sky. Some of us have many freedoms and comforts under those skies, while others not so much. The secret is contentment no matter what our circumstances are. Paul learned that. Like Paul, all we need are God’s blessings and a passion to share those blessings with others so they can discover His salvation.
“May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine on us—2 so that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations.” Psalm 67:1-2 NIV
