If Walls Could Talk
Walls tell stories of those who lived within them before it was our turn. There might be a door frame that has lines drawn on it with dates, ages, and names. Kids do grow up fast.
My son is renovating a log home built in the 1800’s. A Norwegian couple bought 300 acres for 300 dollars and settled the land. They dug into the side of a hill, lined it with rocks, put a sod roof over it, and divided that space in two. One side they lived in. The other side is where their animals lived. They then began to clear the land of giant hemlock. They used the logs to add two stories to their basement/barn combo.
Once the couple and years later their hermit son passed, it was left untouched and had fallen into disrepair. As my son began to rip off the old lathe and plaster and get down to the original hand-hewn hemlock logs, the walls began to tell a story. Hid inside were handwritten hymns made into a hymn book. There were pages from what appears to be an old Danish Bible. God was important to them. They wanted those who followed to know that.
I want to leave a legacy, not made by hand but made by God. Those early settlers left a legacy with broad axes. I want to leave a legacy for future generations by making God’s Word come alive.
“And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.” 2 Timothy 2:2 NIV
