We never seem to have enough money, no matter how much we have. Have you ever asked yourself, what is money? Money is what countries print, that has some perceived value, that the consumer uses to pay for goods and services. We even borrow it and repay it to the lender, with interest.
My parents lived through the depression, so their view of money was much different than mine. Our children’s view of money will also be different.
It is said that money is what makes the world go around. We store it up, so one day we can stop working. God controls all the money, precious metals, and precious gems yet needs none of it. A person’s view of money says a lot.
I knew a man who loved money and he was worth over a million dollars back in the 70’s. Overnight he lost it all and through that experience realized the error of his way, enrolled in seminary, and went on the serve God, not money.
Do we see ourselves as stewards of what God has given to us? That is what we are. Either we control money or money controls us. We get to choose.
“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” Matthew 6:24 NIV
Amen. I’ve been on that journey since the day I understood what money is. I’ve had very little, not knowing if I was going to eat that day, and I’ve recently experienced an abundance that I’ve been able to share with those that are less fortunate. The concept of giving my first fruits is embedded in me, but I have some work to do in stewardship. I love giving back, but I’m not always so wise with being a steward with the ‘extra’.
What you shared is something I too have been through and am going through. Thanks for sharing.
Good Morning. Wow, I finally discovered this part of the Blog. Thanks for the comment and encouragement. It takes a team to make the church function. I am so blessed to have you as part of that team. Pastor Paul
