We Are Family
There are many biological families, many crime families, but one spiritual family. Biological families are identifiable by their DNA. Crime families are identifiable by their code of conduct. The spiritual family is identifiable by having the same Holy Spirit.
Children often bear a remarkable resemblance to their parents and siblings. We look like our biological family and pass certain traits on, like hair color, eye color, or height.
The spiritual family bears a resemblance to Jesus. Our attitudes, actions, and words are a give away that we belong to Jesus. We can be on a cruise ship, a plane, on vacation, in a store, or in a restaurant, meet a total stranger and before long we just know we are talking with another member of our spiritual family, the family of God! The first few times that happened to me almost took my breath away.
In this spiritual family we are God’s children. As His children we are heirs to the largest inheritance known to man. An inheritance so vast it defies description. The Apostle Paul was given a glimpse of this inheritance, and he said words could not describe what he saw. As believers we share the inheritance of the Kingdom of God. How awesome is that!
“Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.” John 1:12-13 NIV
