A Humble Mind
Humility and pride stand in stark contrast with each other. Pride is selfish. Pride is absorbed with self. Pride is about having an improper or a distorted view of oneself.
A humble person puts others first. A humble person does not boast about oneself. A humble person has a proper and balanced view of oneself.
The battle I fight between humility and pride is one we all fight. It is a battle we fight in our minds. According to Satan, if we listen to him, we will end up being smarter than God. He constantly tempts us to think more highly of ourselves than we should. We know where that attitude got him, cast out of heaven, and headed for a lake of fire. Who would want to end up like him?
Jesus instead wants us to think like Him, have His mind in us. Jesus was born in humility. He was not born in a castle but rather a barn. Jesus died in humility. He did not die as a hero in battle but was crucified outside the city walls for all to see.
Here is the key that unlocks a humble mind. Jesus predetermined ahead of time that He was going to obey His father. He came to earth to accomplish what His Father wanted, not what He wanted. We can predetermine today we will obey God and not listen to Satan’s lies. We can predetermine to serve God and others.
“he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death- even death on a cross!” Philippians 2:8b NIV
